Encuentros PARIS 2012

Welcome to the largest conference of Chilean researchers, professionals and students abroad.

Since 2005, the Government of Chile has implemented an ambitious program for training high-level researchers abroad, with the purpose of promoting national knowledge-based development. This has allowed the formation of a large community of Chilean scientists in the world, but at the same time presents a major challenge regarding the reintegration of this human capital to an economy with incipient innovation capabilities.

Encuentros Network has emerged as a possible response to this situation, satisfying a latent need to structure this community and to promote international exchanges between science and industry.

Its relevance has been demonstrated by the rapid growth of the meetings we have held, starting with a seminar of eight researchers in Dresden in 2006 and reaching a total of 225 participants in Cambridge in 2010, including the presentation of Nobel and Chilean National Awards for Science laureates. This year's meeting will take place in Paris, between the 4th and 6th of July.

In the Encuentros Paris 2012 conference, we hope to receive about 300 participants, representing the main interest areas of Chilean researchers abroad (check Program).

A space for creating and strengthening cooperation bonds.

There were over 200 attendees in Encuentros 2011, UC Berkeley, California.
In order to promote the creation of bonds among participants, social activities will occupy an important place in the Encuentros Paris 2012 Conference. We’re planning to organise a gala dinner on the Seine, a tour around the city, cocktails during the poster sessions and thematic lunches.

During the conference, information stands of the main sponsors will be assembled, allowing the diffusion of proposals from universities, foundations and companies interested in creating scientific cooperation projects. This will facilitate funding opportunities to researchers who seek to promote innovative approaches. The establishment of academic links designed to enhance intellectual exchanges and improve the quality of higher education will be especially encouraged.

A network that consolidates in its diversity, with excellent evolution perspectives.

The Encuentros Network has attained wide recognition and support in Chilean society. Nowadays, these achievements motivate us to develop a strategy in order to perpetuate this network, by establishing a foundation capable of maintaining a permanent staff responsible for the organization of future Encuentros and of strengthening the relationships established in previous conferences.

In the long term, the Encuentros Network aims to expand in Latin America and towards other continents, with the objective of establishing itself as an innovative program for the creation of bonds among the academic, public and private sectors, promoting scientific research and its application in projects of high social or productive value.
