With a high quality of communications and an excellent evaluation of the attendees, Encuentros 2012 has been the largest conference of Chilean researchers, professionals and students abroad.

Encuentros Paris 2012 met Chilean and international researchers from North and south America, Europa and Africa.

The Encuentros 2012 Conference was held between the 4th and 6th of July, at the Medicine Faculty of the Université Pierre et Marie Curie (UPMC). Starting with a seminar of eight researchers in Dresden in 2006, we have reached more than 250 attendees in Paris 2012, including the presentation of Nobel Laureates and Chilean National Awards for Science.

In order to promote the creation of bonds among participants, social activities occupied an important place in the Encuentros Paris 2012 Conference. These included a gala dinner on the Seine, a tour around the city, a cocktail during the poster sessions and thematic lunches, among others.

During the conference, information stands of the main sponsors were assembled, allowing the diffusion of proposals from universities, foundations and companies interested in creating scientific cooperation projects. This facilitated the dissemination of funding opportunities to researchers who seek to promote innovative approaches. Thus, academic links were especially encouraged, aiming to enhance intellectual exchanges and to improve the quality of higher education .

Dr. Bernard Seguin, Nobel Peace Prize 2007 Co-Laureate, as part of the IPCC and Research Director at INRA's Agroclim Unit, giving one of the three Keynote lectures at the Conference.

Since 2005, the Government of Chile has implemented an ambitious program for training high-level researchers abroad, with the purpose of promoting national knowledge-based development. This has allowed the formation of a large community of Chilean scientists in the world, but at the same time presents a major challenge regarding the reintegration of this human capital to an economy with incipient innovation capabilities.

There were over 250 attendees in Encuentros Paris, France.

Encuentros Network has emerged as a possible response to this situation, satisfying a latent need to structure this community and to promote international exchanges between science and industry. The Encuentros Network has attained wide recognition and support in Chilean society. Nowadays, these achievements motivate us to develop a strategy in order to perpetuate this network, by establishing a foundation capable of maintaining a permanent staff responsible for the organization of future Encuentros and of strengthening the relationships established in previous conferences.

Dr. Francesc Pedró, Head of the UNESCO education policy advice group.

In the long term, the Encuentros Network aims to expand in Latin America and towards other continents, with the objective of establishing itself as an innovative program for the creation of bonds among the academic, public and private sectors, promoting scientific research and its application in projects of high social or productive value.
